Suzanne Robinson, nee Kendall, writes: “... according to my grandfather ... Mary Murdoch was Maori although there is no record of this. Dad was always talking of maori values and could speak Maori fluently. I am aware that we are descendents of Thomas Kendall the Missionary who also plays a part in Australian history.”1027
She also writes, “Thomas Kendall has been somewhat the butt of a few family jokes here as he performed the first marriage between Maori and Pakeha and the marriage lasted less than 24 hours with the bride returning to her iwi.”1027
