OBITUARY

OBITUARY
Mr. T. E. Kendall
After an illness extending over about
a year, one of Holbrook's most public
spirited residents, owner of the pro-
perty 'Mayburn,' Mr. Thomas El-
worthy Kendall, died in Albury on
Sunday afternoon, aged 64 years. He
was the son of Mrs. Catherine Kendall,
of Henty, and. the late Mr. James
Henry Elworthy Kendall.
Born in the Holbrook district, and
commencing trom small beginnings,
Mr. Kendall, through hard work and
a will to win, made his mark as a
farmer and grazier. He gave much
of his time to public institutions, into
which he threw all his zeal.
For fifteen years he had been a
member of the Holbrook Shire Coun-
cil and was a past president. As a
committeeman, and later president of
the Show Society, he did much valu-
able work, and as an appreciation was
recently presented with a life mem-
bership medallion.
In the office of president of the Al-
bury and District Football League he
threw his weight behind the Austra-
lian code, and the Holbrook Football,
Cricket and Race Club and the Picnic
Race Club will remember him as a
valued worker.
Mr. Kendall's knowledge gained from
long association with the soil made
him sought after from further afield.
In trying times he did a great job as
a member of the State Wheat Advisory
Committee and the Australian Meat
Board, and during his membership of
the Farmers and Settlers' Association,
of which he held office as president,
he championed the fight for a fair
deal for the men on the land.
Besides his widow, he is survived by
five sons: James Elworthy, Thomas
Ray, Robert Henry (all of Holbrook),
Norman Thomas (Culcairn), and Gor-
don John (Forbes); and daughters are
Mesdames Dorothy Larkins (Hol-
brook), C. J. Heather (Bright), A. L
McLachlan (Brisbane), and Misses
Roma Elaine and Helen Mabel Ken-
dall. One daughter, Edna May, pre-
deceased him.
Mr. Kendall. is also survived by his
brothers, Messrs Albert James (Henty),
D'Arcy Arthur Kendall (Henty), and
sisters, Mesdames Mary Plim (Lis-
more) Jane Roberts (Melbourne), W.
O. Kones (Henty), E Greschke (Yack-
andandah), and F, Shipard (Henty).
One brother, George, predeceased him
The funeral took place on Tuesday
afternoon, the cortege leaving the
Church of England after a service at
which high tribute was paid to Mr.
Kendall and his family. The funeral
was one of the largest ever seen at
Holbrook. The pall-bearers were his
five sons and brother. Mr. A. J. Ken
dall.
