Notes for Richard Kendall
Richard Kendall (1835-1893) arrived Bundaberg grom England in 1870. Kendall at first selected land in the Woongarra Scrub, now East Bundaberg, but when he failed to establish sugar production he opened the first store in East Bundaberg in 1875. As a Methodist lay preacher Kendall built the Ebeneza Free Church which was open to all denominations. He took and active interest in public affairs and was elected first chairman of the Woongarra Divisional Board.
