Notes for Robert Oscar Kendall
MR. ROBERT KENDALL.
Mr Robert Kendall, who died at his resi-
dence, Darenth, Springdale-road Killara, on  
Thursday at the age of 65 years had an inter-
esting career as a railway Englandineer in New  
South Wales. In April last he retired from
tho office of Englandineer-in-Chief for Existing
Lines after 40 years' service. Mr Kendall  
had been in indifferent health during practic-  
ally the whole of his period of retirement. He
commenced his Englandineering career as a cadet
at the old Atlas Englandineering Works, and  
graduated fiom there into the Railway De-
partment early in November, 1881, receiv-
ing an appointment as a draftsman in the ex-
isting lines branch.
Mr. Kendall succeeded the present Chief
Commissioner, Mr James Fraser, in the office
of Englandineer-in-chief for Existing Lines. Early  
in his departmental career he supervised the
erectlon of the locomotive workshops at Eve-
leigh, and during recent years carried through
works of considerable magnitude including
the Ultimo Powerhouse, the Zig Zag, Glen-    
brook and Waterfall-Otford deviations. Mr  
Kendall has left a widow, two sons and one
daughter.  298

OBITUARY.
MR. R. KENDALL
The funeral of the late Mr. Robert Kendall
took place on Saturday morning in Waverley
Cemetery. There was a large attendance of
officers of the Railway Department, as well
as representatives of various other Govern-
ment departments, in addition to relatives
and private friends. The service was con-
ducted by the Rev. Leo Charlton, of Killara,
who spoke of the estimable qualities of the
late Mr. Kendall.
The principal mourners were Messrs. R. C.
